Job Description: Community Coordinator

Who We Are

The Simcoe County Food Council is a community-based network committed to enhancing community food access and reducing household food insecurity in Simcoe County.  We are made up of community members, food producers, local businesses and organizations who are passionate and invested in ensuring everyone in Simcoe County has access to safe, nutritious, affordable, culturally appropriate food that is physically and financially accessible. The Karma Project is the current Trustee of the Food Council, and the selected candidate will report to its Executive Director throughout the term of this contract.

 

What We Do

We use the Simcoe County Food Security Framework as a blueprint to help increase awareness, coordination, and development of initiatives designed to enhance food security at the community and household levels across Simcoe County. 

 

The seven goals of the Simcoe County Food Security Framework are:

 

  • Reducing household food insecurity in Simcoe County

  • Support income and housing solutions

  • Increase physical access to sufficient nutritious food for all 

  • Improve community food literacy 

  • Support the local agri-food sector  

  • Foster Simcoe County’s food traditions and Indigenous food knowledge and culture 

  • Collaboration toward a food-secure Simcoe County

  

What You’ll Do:

As an independent contractor, you will help the Simcoe County Food Council work towards a more food-secure Simcoe County by:

 

  • Providing general administrative support for the Simcoe County Food Council as a whole as well as for the working tables;

  • Assisting in establishing working groups and supporting the working groups to determine key priorities to action;

  • Assisting in maintaining momentum in each working group through effective ongoing communication and task completion;

  • Scheduling, coordinating, and planning meetings and events for all aspects of the Simcoe County Food Council;

  • Helping to prepare and update strategic plans, annual reports and work plans; implement tasks in plans as appropriate;

  • Tracking and monitoring deliverables and outcomes for the Simcoe County Food Council;

  • Preparing summary reports and updates in the form of monthly e-newsletters, completing grant proposals, and collecting evaluation data as per deliverables.

  • Facilitating communication and effective collaboration between the working groups and the Simcoe County Food Council;

  • Supporting the Simcoe County Food Council partners in developing strategic partnerships with targeted organizations/ networks;

  • Helping to promote the work of the Simcoe County Food Council and implement a communication and social marketing strategy; \

  • Updating the information-sharing platform with documents and resources as they become available to help facilitate effective info-sharing across the Simcoe County Food Council.

  • Providing website content development and management for the Simcoe County Food Council website (including the Food Literacy/Skills section).

  • Providing technical support to events, presentations, webinars, as necessary

  • Managing SCFC budget, tracking monthly spending, and preparing financial reports.

 

What You Bring

  • A passion for food insecurity, food security and poverty reduction work.

  • A minimum of 2 years of office administration or project coordination experience in a high-volume or fast-paced environment. 

  • Strong computer skills in Google Docs and Drive, and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

  • Good understanding of social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook and communication, design and survey platforms like Mail Chimp;

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to recognize/meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Exceptional interpersonal/customer service and conflict resolution skills in dealing effectively with partners from different sectors.

  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills – both verbal and written.

  • Ability to maintain a positive and proactive attitude while handling the stress of multiple demands and working under tight timelines.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well in a very close-knit, team-oriented environment.

  • Experience or familiarity with consensus-based decision-making is an asset.

Compensation:

Salary: $40,000

Term: 12 months, with potential to be renewed

Based on an assumed 20-hour workweek 

  

Additional Details:

The independent contractor must carry liability insurance.

The independent contractor will report to the Trustee of the Simcoe County Food Council.


The independent contractor will be responsible for any costs over and above the awarded contract amount, including travel, meals, accommodations, phone, internet, printing, personal devices, etc.


The Simcoe County Food Council/the Karma Project reserves all rights to the content of the promotional materials, art, and other productions created within the scope of this contract, including, but not limited to, text, design, pictures, maps, tables, intellectual/technical/artistic rights, etc. The Independent contractor shall not claim any rights to the work provided during and after the completion of the project.


The position has flexible work hours, but independent contractors must be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays as part of their working schedule.


The position is remote, but may require some travel within Simcoe County.  

Preference will be given to those located in Simcoe County.
